The Porvoo Communion Invitation to Prayer 2007

For the Bishops of the Porvoo Churches and the clergy and people of their Dioceses

Introduction

The Porvoo Declaration commits the churches which have signed it ‘to share a common life’ and ‘to pray for and with one another’.  An important way to do this is to pray for the dioceses of our churches and their bishops.  Thank you for using this information.

This document lists all the dioceses of each Church, giving the names of the diocesan bishop and any suffragan or full-time assistant bishop.  (Episcopal vacancies in dioceses at the time of publication may have been filled by the time this prayer cycle is used – please send details of amendments to the Council for Christian Unity at the address printed after the index.)  The arrangement of some of the dioceses in the calendar reflects existing diocesan links and the request by a number of bishops for prayer at a particular season, as far as these could be accommodated.  There is also an index of dioceses.

Those using the booklet are invited to choose one day each week on which they will pray for the bishops and people of the Porvoo churches.  It is hoped that our cathedrals also make use of this booklet in their own cycle of prayer week-by-week.  Bishops have asked us to pray for and/or give thanks for a particular aspect of the life of their dioceses.

In addition to the churches which have approved the Porvoo Declaration, we continue to pray for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia which has not taken a decision on the Porvoo Declaration, and for the Church of Denmark, whose bishops have not been able to endorse the Declaration but who nevertheless wish to maintain and develop their links with the churches which have signed it.  Observers from both churches attend all the meetings held under the Agreement.
